Inlaid Hardwood Salad Servers
Hand carved salad servers made from Zambian hardwoods and inlaid with an etched piece of upcycled Nguni cow bone. Designed and crafted in collaboration with husband and wife duo Patrick and Mailika Zulu in Zambia's capital.
Please note wood tone and pattern will be unique to each piece and the design of the bone inlay is varied. The carvers source the hardwoods locally and we finish each pair with food safe mineral oil.
Dimensions: 9-10" l x 3" w
As each piece is made by hands not machines, please allow for some small variation in size.
A note on sustainability:
Crafted using locally sourced hardwoods. The scale of the pieces allows for the use of smaller branches that might otherwise become firewood or charcoal. The bone used is a byproduct from a local meat manufacturer.
Care instructions: Please exclusively wash wooden items by hand.
We recommend using warm water and mild soap and drying immediately.
Kaleya was born from a deep appreciation of handcrafted goods. We are endlessly inspired by the moment of pause and feeling of awe that we experience when holding a beautiful object someone made by hand. We believe that everyday objects matter; that the pieces you live with have the power to shape your days. Our aim is to make beautiful and functional artisan pieces from Zambia more accessible to the benefit of both makers and buyers. We are committed to sourcing ethically and operating in a way that ensures artisans truly benefit from the expansion of their wares into a broader market. Our founder, Jessica, has been based primarily in Zambia for almost 10 years. We know our artisan partners personally and work with them directly on design, production, and quality control. We prioritize the use of locally sourced materials, many of which are naturally regenerating or upcycled.
